News from Dr Terry Jones and Stand Up America Now!
The events in Dearborn the last weeks have opened the eyes of the nation to the threat of Islamic control here in America.
On April 21st we were taken straight from the Detroit airport to Wayne County Court. The hearing concerning our protest in front of the Islamic Center of America the next day turned in to a Jury Trial used to prevent our going to the Islamic Center at all on the 22nd. Free Speech Zones in Dearborn require no permit and there is no charge for security. The Free Speech Zones are unconstitutional. Others have protested in front of the same Islamic Center and were not charged for security. Both myself and my assistant Wayne Sapp were accused with causing a breach of the peace as the court thought our protest would result in a riot.
We were required to pay a Peace Bond, a quarantee that we would not go near the Islamic Center of America for three years. As we each refused to pay the Peace Bond, set in the end at $1, the judged ordered us to be taken straight to jail. Neither Wayne Sapp nor myself had committed any crime. We did not breach the peace nor cause a riot, yet we were charged with a "Breach of the Peace." After an hour in the jail, we each paid the $1 under protest. It was that or 3 years behind bars.
These violations of our Constitutional Rights have become fuel for a legal challenge to the restrictions on our free speech. The Thomas Moore Law Center is defending our rights, appealing the charges to have our records expunged. We will then file a Civil Suit in Federal Court to fight for our Constitutional First Amendment Rights.
There were approximately 125 supporters, many local supporters from Dearborn and other parts of Michigan, and some who drove from as far away as Chicago, New York and Florida. There were hundreds of counter protesters across the street. I spoke on the First Amendment, and the Constitution. My Assistant Wayne Sapp also spoke about radical Islam and the cowardliness of the Church. (Watch these speeches in the videos below.) As we spoke, the counter protesters shouted obscenities, threw shoes and bottles toward myself, Wayne Sapp and our supporters.
Police immediately worked to push the counter protesters back, at the same time calling the Riot Police to the scene. Police were eventually able to get the counter protesters under control. I was escorted back to the podium where I finished my speech as planned.

On Monday I released this statement: “Concerning the death of Osama Bin Laden, as a Pastor, we feel it is tragic anytime someone dies without the saving power of Jesus Christ, but as an American, justice has been done. He was an evil man responsible for thousands of innocent people being killed. His death was an act of justice and we commend the men and women in our armed forces who daily put their lives at risk so we can enjoy the freedoms that our constitution guarantees us.”
This Sunday, May 8th, we will hold our first Texas Rally, in Amarillo TX, 3-6pm. I will be the featured speaker and will continue to call America to Stand Up! I will address three issues: Homosexuality, Abortion, and Islam.
